At its most basic level electronic access control starts with a rolling code hand transmitter system, similar to the type used on a domestic automatic gate.  This device can be used to open and close gates and doors and uses a secure form of communication. You are generally able to add up to 200 users; however deleting the codes of lost remote controls can be difficult as each remote control does not have an individual identification. They are a good low cost solution for residential and small commercial premises.

Programmable Keypads

Another solution is the standalone programmable keypad.  The keypad can be an economical solution as one keypad can service many people without the issuing of cards or remote controls.
